I absolutely love gastronomic adventures. Friday brunches can be classified as an adventure since the food spread is almost always so elaborate that you are like a stuffed toy at the end of it all. Doha has seen a rise in this new dining scene and let me be frank some of the brunches in town is really worth the calories.
As I have been on a weekly visit to Mövenpick in the past month to try the different buffets they are offering I must say that I am extremely impressed by the quality of food. Yes there were dishes that I truly did not like and did not try but the dishes that made me happy far outweighed the not so good ones.
Let me jump into food talk. The restaurant Blue, in Mövenpick Al Aziziyah offers brunch every Friday between 12.30pm – 4.30pm for QR150 per person. The food spread is huge! There are four different live cooking stations in addition to the buffet indoors. The buffet consists of cuisines from around the Arab world and continental dishes. The highlight of the lunch is the ‘Lamb Ouzi’ (Kharouf خروف), which was the best I have had up to date. The best thing about it was that the Kharouf was prepared by Mr Karim, the restaurant manager. Surely a perfect manager indeed!
The salad bar had the Arabic mezzes and a good selection of seafood. Guess what caught my eye! Yes MUSSELS! There was a chicken roll kind of appetizer that I totally forgot the name that had caramelized onions on top that were really delicious.
I was eager to try out the dishes from the live cooking station rather than the buffet. After trying a little Kharouf, I headed to the pasta station and lo behold! The pasta of my dreams was being cooked there. I am a pasta lover, the cheesier the merrier and it should be a good mix of tomato/red and white sauces. For me, Restaurant Blue is the answer to the hunt for the best pasta in Doha.
The grill station had all kinds of meat ready to be cooked and the results were yummy morsel of juicy kebabs. I tried grilled mussels for the first time and totally fell in love with it. (As if I don’t like mussels😂😂).
The desserts were a hit and miss though as is in most of the places. There was a live kunafa and waffle station. The kunafas were good but waffles were not something that I liked. I do not know of others but I love waffles that are crunchy and chewy rather than the soft ones smothered in chocolate and berries. My brother really enjoyed the waffle though.
The desserts in the buffet included a chocolate fondant with fruits and marshmallows, assorted cake slices, petite fours and arabic sweet delicacies. My favorite among them was the cheesecake that absolutely melted in the mouth.
The restaurant was completely packed. The Al Fresco dining which can be only utilized now that the weather is awesome, was full too. The vibe was pretty good and it was beautiful to see the food being enjoyed by everyone who came to dine at Blue. I am definitely going back for the Ouzi and the Pasta.
Now it is time to reward my readers. As a token of love to all of them who followed me on Instagram to help me reach 5K, I am giving away a voucher for a family of 4 to try the beautiful brunch at Blue, Mövenpick Al Aziziyah. All you have to do to enter the giveaway is here:
