As a food dreamer day and night, the food festival celebration of Qatar was beyond joy for me. Being a Food Blogger, I was keenly waiting for QIFF 2016 to flag off.
Teaming up with the official PR Agency gave me chance to discover more at QIFF 2016. What awaited the people of Qatar at QIFF was food, food and more food. So let me talk about the opening first. Unfortunately I missed the day due to some other reasons and I regret every moment of it.
Her Highness Sheikha Mayassa Bint Hamad Al Thani inaugrated the QIFF 2016. It was one of my dream to meet her in person and I think my dream just got extended. The most talked about for QIFF 2016 was the arrival of the ever charming Martha Stewart. To say I am a fan of hers is an understatement. Martha Stewart cooked a healthy five dishes on the opening day of QIFF 2016.
The main venue of QIFF 2016 was the Museum of Islamic Arts Park (MIA). The set up was really good with entertainment stage both for kids and grown-ups, live cooking theatres, stalls that potrayed all sectors of food, high tea areas, fireworks at night, dinner in boats and ultimately the Dine in Sky experience by the Qatar Airways Business Class. A complete entertaining Food Festival which drew more than 200, 000 visitors.
There were lots of activities and games for the kids at QIFF 2016.
QIFF 2016 also extended into The Pearl and Katara. Entertainments, live cooking shows and food trucks were the highlights and reaching to and from MIA through water taxis made everything special. This time Food Festival was a celebration not only in the land, but also in the water and air.
The live cooking theatres saw dishes made by renowed chefs of the world. Starting with Martha Stewart, there was num num chef, Aisha Tamimi, Vineet Bhatia and the Master Chef Australia fame George Calombaris . The chefs made spectacular and amazing dishes in short span of time and tasting some of them was an ever lasting memory.
A special mention to Ghanim Sulaiti, the most earth friendly pure vegan Qatari, who made healthy and vegan foods more famous at the QIFF 2016. I personally saw him walk with his green juice and preparing them. A great human and a perfect vegan food specialist.
The water taxis was an experience on its own. The dinner in traditional Dhows here authentic Qatari hospitality was potrayed and the afternoon tea in a donut dhow were among the most amazing dining experiences I had. Though I was engulfed in taking pictures and videos the whole time! The Museum of Islamic Arts looked even more majestic from the waters.
The show stealer was the amazing Dine-in-Sky by Qatar Airways that showed a taste of Business Class by Qatar Airways. I have travelled quiet a few times with Qatar Airways Business Class and I must tell you I love it. The Dine-In-Sky at QIFF 2016 was equally impressive. The welcoming airhostesses and in-lounge facilities reminds us of being at HIA. I loved the Business Class Lounge a MIA. A surreal experience to be brief.
The week of food celebrations went by really fast and QIFF 2016 has put the curtains down but I can’t wait for the next QIFF already. A big kudos to all behind organizing and to all fellow media representatives for making QIFF 2016 a huge success.
Let these pictures tell you the rest of my story at QIFF 2016. The fireworks that lit up the sky on every night of the Food Festival was amazing. The icecarving drew a lot of crowd as the craftsmen engraved beautiful shapes out of blocks of ice.
Did you go to QIFF 2016? If so did you love it? What was your experience like?
